On 15th January 2021, SASiety held its first meeting of the semester where we discussed our plans for the near future. One of our aims has been to find ways to cope and adjust to an increasingly virtual environment while not missing out on the social aspects of our degree. Many students expressed that they would have liked a space to study and catch up with other fellow students and so our Social Events Officer, Islay Shelbourne has put together an event where we will be able to study, catch up, and share.
Below you will be able to vote for which day of the week and time would work best for you. We were thinking Friday, but we are open to your recommendations! We will be announcing the final date on Monday 15th February. Ultimately, we want you to make the most of it and be able to engage with as many fellow researchers as possible.
A Virtual Space of One's Own
Do you miss the productive buzz of the library? Are you finding writing alone a thankless and isolating task? Do you just miss the SAS environment? Then our first Virtual Writing Retreat could be for you!
The structured writing retreat will allow you to share your goals for the session, write ‘together’ with other SAS students for set blocks, and be able to catch up, share strategies and discuss how things are going in the break. Our #PostgradSurvival theme has shown how varied our writing processes can be. If you benefit from company, accountability or set productivity slots (or all of the above!) then we hope the writing retreat will help you to achieve all your writing goals.
Each session will include a 15-minute intro and goal sharing chat, two 1hr30 writing slots with a 30 min break in the middle, and then a 15 minute debrief after. The first retreat will take place at the end of February. Please do vote in the polls to establish what day and start time works best.
We hope to see you there!
