Advent Calendar – Day 12 – Cinnamon Star Biscuits

Yields: 25 Servings Difficulty: Easy Cook Time: 15 Mins

One of my favourite childhood memories is baking Christmas Biscuits (in German: Weihnachtsgebäck) in my Grandma’s kitchen. We would spend all day making all sorts of biscuits, listening to Christmas songs on her old record player and drink hot cocoa. My absolute favourites are Zimtsterne. Naturally, the first batch of Plätzle (another word for Christmas Biscuits in my local dialect) I baked this year is of course the star-shaped cinnamon biscuits.

Today, I’m going to share my Grandma’s recipe with you!

You can let us know how you get on if you decide to try this at home! Just tweet about it or tag SASiety in your post on Instagram!

  • Mix almonds, icing sugar and cinnamon in a big bowl. Then add the egg white, vanilla and alcohol. Knead until you have an even dough.
  • Dust your countertop with icing sugar and roll out the dough until it is roughly 1cm thick. For easiness, use a star-shaped cutter to cut out the stars. (If you don’t have one you can just cut out squares or rectangular biscuits with a knife).
  • Place the biscuits on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  • Whisk the egg white until stiff. Then slowly add the icing sugar until you have a meringue-like mixture. Coat the biscuits with the mixture.
  • Bake at 120 degrees (fan) for 10-15 minutes.
