The world is slowly opening back up and the London Arts & Humanities Partnership and SASiety have teamed up for an online event with in-person meet-up!

Do you often feel daunted by the prospect of having to choose between 'academic' and 'non-academic' jobs after your PhD?

Online Talk With Amazing Speakers

Part 1 of this event will take place online, between 5pm - 6.30pm. We have invited three amazing speakers who will speak to us about their careers - how they got into them, which skills they have found useful in the process, and any other advice they would give to postgraduates or the soon-to-be. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time for questions.

Hannah Ishmael Black Cultural Archives

Hannah Ishmael is the Collections and Research Manager at Black Cultural Archives (BCA).

Hannah has recently completed her PhD in the Department of Information Studies, University College London, on the development of Black-led archives in London. Hannah currently lectures in the Department of Information Studies.

Helen Charman is the Director of Learning & National Programmes at the Victoria & Albert Museum. She is a cultural learning professional with 30 years’ experience of leading, managing, devising and delivering programmes across a rich spectrum of cultural learning contexts both in the UK and internationally, including schools, universities, local government, charitable organisations and public museums. She holds a Doctorate in Museum Education from the University of London.

Oliver Cox University of Oxford

An historian by training, Oliver Cox is Heritage Engagement Fellow at the University of Oxford and works as a consultant with heritage organisations. He co-ordinates, supports and brokers collaborative research and engagement projects between the University of Oxford and external partners in the UK and international heritage sector such as the National Trust , through enabling individual researchers, research groups, students and professional services to develop mutually-beneficial collaborations.

Outdoors And In-Person

Part 2 of this event is an outdoor, in-person networking reception (7.30 pm) for the attendants to follow up on the conversations had online and make some new cross-institutional connections!

The evening reception afterwards is of course voluntary, but it would be lovely to see you there if you can make it. This past year has robbed all of us of many opportunities to network - no in-person launch events, conferences, welcome drinks, in short: no incidental encounters which famously make up the creative fabric within the structures of academia and beyond. This has been particularly detrimental for cross-cohort and cross-institutional networking, and hence for the exchange of ideas on a more general scale.

Expect drinks and nibbles, generously provided by LAHP, new and old faces, and some great conversations.
